Clumsy in the village well

The wishing well in "My Smurfy Valentine"

A wishing well is a water well that legend says has the power to grant the wish of whoever makes a wish in it, usually with some stipulations.

In "My Smurfy Valentine", Chlorhydris sought a wishing well that was protected by the Forest Of Poison Thorns, which would grant her wish upon a solar eclipse on Valentine's Day that only happens once every 1000 years. However, she needed a cat that fit the requirements of being descended from royalty in order to pass through the forest and access the well. That cat turned out to be Gargamel's cat Azrael (which surprisingly was a descendant of the Egyptian cat pharoah Azra from "Mummy Dearest"). With Azrael in her possession, Chlorhydris made her way through the forest and past the well's guardians to put the cat into the well's bucket so she could make her wish come true for a world without love. The Smurfs went to that same well in order to stop Chlorhydris' wish from coming true, as did Gargamel, with Smurfette wanting her wish of a Prince Smurfing to come true. Cupid stopped Gargamel and Chlorhydris from making their wish into the well by shooting them both with love arrows so that they would fall in love with each other. However, as Smurfette saw Azrael approach Papa Smurf to attack him, she made her wish be that they would be go back to where they belonged -- and that wish was granted, sending the Smurfs back to the village, Chlorhydris back to their castle with her captured cats, and Gargamel back to his home.

In "The Secret Of The Village Well", Clumsy believed that the village well was a wishing well and that a Wishing Fairy had lived in it that was able to grant wishes to the wisher. However, Brainy discovered and told his friend that a Wishing Fairy cannot grant wishes unless the wisher had a penny to drop into the well. The other Smurfs decided to help Clumsy out by luring Gargamel, who was out in the forest looking for the Smurf Village while carrying an old penny to drop into its well (also believing it to be a wishing well), into dropping his penny by having him and his cat Azrael chase them around for a bit. The Smurfs took the penny and gave it to Clumsy, who then recited the magic words for the Wishing Fairy and dropped his penny into the well. Unfortunately, the penny did not do Clumsy any good, even as Hefty went into the well to retrieve the penny to return it to Gargamel and discovered that the village well isn't a wishing well.
