- June 25 - Pierre Culliford (Peyo) was born in Brussels, Belgium.
1947
- Peyo's first creation, "Johan" 'was first published on newspaper.
1949
- January 22 - Another Peyo's creation, Poussy, was published on newspaper.
1952
- Johan was published on the French magazine 'Spirou'. While the the appearance of Johan was changed from blond-hair to dark-hair.
1954
- Peewit joined the series in the comic book 'The Goblin of Rocky Wood' (Le lutin du Bois aux Roches), and the name of the series had changed to 'Johan and Peewit' (Johan et Pirlouit).
1955
- December 29 - The birth of Peyo's son, Thierry Culliford.
1958
- October 23 - The comic book 'The Smurfs and The Magic Flute' (La Flûte à six schtroumpfs) was published, marking the first appearance of the Smurfs.
1960
- December 15 - The first comic story of Benny Breakiron, 'The Red Taxis' was published.
1963
- November 30 - The first comic book featuring the Smurfs, 'The Black Smurfs' was published. Gargamel and Azrael were introduced.
1965
- The first Smurfs animated series 'Les Aventures des Schtroumpfs' was aired on Belgian TV.
1967
- March 16 - The second Smurf comic book 'The Smurfette' was published. Smurfette was introduced.
1976
- The film based on the comic book of the same name, 'The Smurfs and The Magic Flute' was shown in Europe.
1978
- Father Abraham In Smurfland album was released worldwide, with 5,000 copies sold.
1980
- May 15 - The film 'The Smurfs and The Magic Flute' premieres in Australia.
1981
- September 12 - One of the first cartoon episodes 'The Astro Smurf' was aired on NBC in North America. Representing the start of the first season and the whole cartoon series.
1982
- April 8 - The Smurfs Springtime Special was aired. Lord Balthazar and Mother Nature were introduced.
- September 18 - The Smurfs cartoon season 2 was aired. The Johan And Peewit segments were also aired.
- December 13 - The Smurfs' Christmas Special was aired.
- Smurf: Rescue In Gargamel's Castle was released for the ColecoVision in the fall of 1982.
1983
- Marvel Comics published three original Smurfs comic books.
- February 13 - My Smurfy Valentine was aired. Chlorhydris was introduced.
- September 17 - The Smurfs cartoon season 3 was aired. Baby Smurf and the adult version of Natural Smurf were introduced.
- November 25 - The film 'The Smurfs and The Magic Flute' premieres in United States.
1984
- The Baby Smurf was published, featuring the comic book debut of Baby Smurf.
- May 20 - The Smurfic Games was aired.
- September 15 - The Smurfs cartoon season 4 was aired.
- IMPS S.A. (International Merchandising, Promotion & Service) was founded and run by Peyo's daughter, Véronique Culliford.
1985
- February 13 - Smurfily Ever After was aired.
- September 21 - The Smurfs cartoon season 5 was aired. The Smurflings and Puppy were introduced.
1986
- September 13 - The Smurfs cartoon season 6 was aired. Grandpa Smurf and Scruple were introduced.
- The syndication package of the Smurfs cartoon show, Smurfs Adventures was also aired, and continues to air on several TV channels including Boomerang as of today.
1987
- September 19 - The Smurfs cartoon season 7 was aired. Wild Smurf and Chitter were introduced.
- December 13 - 'Tis The Season To Be Smurfy was aired.
1988
- The Smurflings was published featuring the comic book debut of the Smurflings.
- September 10 - The Smurfs cartoon season 8 was aired. Nanny Smurf and Smoogle were introduced.
1989
- May 9 - The theme park featuring the Smurfs, 'Big Bang Schtroumpfs' was opened at France.
- September 9 - The last season of the cartoon show, the Smurfs cartoon season 9 was aired.
- December 2 - One of the last episodes of the ninth season was aired. Representing the end of the Smurfs cartoon show.
1990
- April 21 - Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue was aired.
- August 25 - After almost a decade of success, NBC had cancelled the show due to low ratings.
- October - The publisher of the Smurfs comic book had changed to Le Lombard from Dupuis with the publication of the comic story 'The Aerosmurf'
1991
- April 20 - The theme park, 'Big Bang Schtroumpfs' changed its name to 'Walibi Schtroumpf', Smurfs attractions at there were kept the same until 2003.
1992
- The 16th Smurf comic book, 'The Finance Smurf' was published. This was the last Smurfs comic book by Peyo before his death.
- December 24 - Peyo died of heart attack at the age of 63. Since then, his son Thierry Culliford continued his father's work.
1994
- The 17th Smurf comic book, 'The Jewel Smurfer' was published. This was the first comic book published since Peyo's death.
- Infogrames' 1994 Smurfs game was released in Europe for the Super Nintendo, the Game Boy, and the Nintendo Entertainment System.
1995
- Infogrames' 1994 Smurfs game was released in Europe for the Mega Drive, the Sega Master System, the Game Gear, and the Sega Mega CD.
1996
- October 26 - The 18th Smurf comic book, 'Doctor Smurf' was published.
- The Smurfs Go Pop! album was released.
1997
- June 7 - The 11th Benny Breakiron comic book, 'The Southern Road' was published.

2003
- April 19 - The theme park 'Walibi Schtroumpf' changed its name to 'Walibi Lorraine' and re-opened on that day. However, all Smurf attractions were removed during renovations in the park during 2002 to 2003.

- June 25 - The Smurfs Store was opened in Brussels, along with the Smurf statue unraveled. On the same day, the second Global Smurfs Day was celebrated worldwide as well to honour Peyo's birthday.
