1928

• June 25 - Pierre Culliford (Peyo) was born in Brussels, Belgium.

1947

• Peyo's first creation, "Johan" 'was first published on newspaper called La Dernière Heure.

1949

• January 22 - Another Peyo's creation, "Poussy", was published on newspaper.

1952

• Johan was published on the French magazine 'Spirou'. While the appearance of Johan was changed from blond-hair to dark-hair.
• The first Johan comic book "Basenhau's Punishment" was published by Dupuis.

1953

• The 2^nd "Johan" comic book "The Master Of Roucybeuf" was published.

1954

• Peewit joined the series in the comic book 'The Goblin Of Rocky Wood' (Le lutin du Bois aux Roches), and the name of the series had changed to 'Johan And Peewit' (Johan et Pirlouit).

1955

• The 4^th and 5^{th "}Johan and Peewit" comic books, "The Moonstone" and "The Vikings' Pledge" were published by Dupuis.
• December 29 - The birth of Peyo's son, Thierry Culliford.

1956

• The 6^th "Johan and Peewit" comic book, "The Source Of The Gods", was published.

1957

• The 7^th and 8^th "Johan and Peewit" comic book, "The Black Arrow" and "The Earl Of Montrésor" were published.

1958

• October 23 - The 9^th "Johan and Peewit" comic book 'The Smurfs And The Magic Flute' (La Flûte à six schtroumpfs) was published, marking the first appearance of the Smurfs.

1959

• The 10^th "Johan and Peewit" comic book, "The War Of The Seven Springs" was published.
• The first comic book story featuring the Smurfs, "The Black Smurfs", appeared on the magazine "Spirou".

1960

• January 1 - Peyo created his 5^th series, which the name is called "Pierrot And The Lamp".
• December 15 - The first comic story of Benny Breakiron, 'The Red Taxis' was published.
• The 11^th "Johan and Peewit" comic book, "The Castellac Ring" was published.
• Peyo's 6^th creation, "Jacky and Célestin" was created.

1961

• The first Smurfs cartoon series was aired on RTB in Belgium, the series was continued airing in Belgium until 1967.

1963

• November 30 - The first comic book album featuring the Smurfs, 'The Black Smurfs' was published. Gargamel and Azrael were introduced.

1965

• The first Smurfs animated film 'Les Aventures des Schtroumpfs' was aired on Belgian TV and has been overshadowed 18 years later when 'The Smurfs And The Magic Flute' came to theatres in 1983.

1967

• March 16 - The third Smurf comic book 'The Smurfette' was published. Smurfette was introduced.

1969

• The first Smurfs television special 'The Smurfette' was aired on Belgian TV.

1973

• September 13 - The 9^th Smurfs comic book "Smurf Versus Smurf" was published.

1976

• October 7 - The film based on the comic book of the same name, 'The Smurfs And The Magic Flute' was shown in Europe and features the original French audio track. Its first premiere was in Germany with a German audio track.
• December 3 - 'The Smurfs And The Magic Flute' film premiered in Denmark with a Danish audio track.
• December 6 - The 10^th Smurfs comic book "Smurf Soup" was published, introducing Bigmouth to the franchise.

1982

• April 8 - "The Smurfs Springtime Special" was aired. Lord Balthazar and Mother Nature were introduced.
• September 18 - The Smurfs cartoon Season 2 was aired. The Johan And Peewit segments were also aired.
• December 13 - "The Smurfs' Christmas Special" was aired.
• Smurf: Rescue In Gargamel's Castle was released for the ColecoVision in the fall of 1982.

1983

• Marvel Comics published three original Smurfs comic books.
• The Smurfs Save The Day was released for the Atari 2600.
• February 3 - The 11^th Smurfs comic book "The Olympic Smurfs" was published.
• February 13 - "My Smurfy Valentine" was aired. Chlorhydris was introduced.
• September 17 - The Smurfs cartoon Season 3 was aired. Baby Smurf and the adult version of Natural Smurf were introduced.

1984

• November 27 - The 12^th Smurfs comic book "The Baby Smurf" was published, featuring the comic book debut of Baby Smurf.

• February 13 - "Smurfily Ever After" was aired.
• September 21 - The Smurfs cartoon Season 5 was aired. The Smurflings and Puppy were introduced.

1986

• September 13 - The Smurfs cartoon Season 6 was aired. Grandpa Smurf and Scruple were introduced.
• The syndication package of the Smurfs cartoon show, Smurfs Adventures was also aired, and continues to air on several TV channels including Boomerang until 2020.

1987

• The Smurfs cartoon show was released on VHS for the first time in North America.
• September 19 - The Smurfs cartoon Season 7 was aired. Wild Smurf and Chitter were introduced.
• December 13 - "'Tis The Season To Be Smurfy" was aired.

1988

• April 1 - The 13^th Smurfs comic book "The Smurflings" was published featuring the comic book debut of the Smurflings.
• September 10 - The Smurfs cartoon Season 8 was aired. Nanny Smurf and Smoogle were introduced.
• The first Smurf hot air balloon was built to commemorate the franchise' 30^th anniversary.

1989

• Smurfs Village Tales VHS was released in North America.
• May 9 - The theme park featuring the Smurfs, 'Big Bang Schtroumpfs' was opened at France.
• July 17 - Hanna Barbera's 50th A Yabba Dabba Doo Celebration premiered on television, with all the characters from their shows together including the Smurfs themselves.

• December 2 - One of the last episodes of the ninth season was aired. Representing the end of the Smurfs cartoon show.

1990

• April 21 - "Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue" was aired.
• August 25 - After almost a decade of success, NBC had cancelled the show due to low ratings.
• October 17 - The publisher of the Smurfs comic book had changed to Le Lombard from Dupuis with the publication of the comic story 'The Aerosmurf'.

1991

• January 1 - The 14^th Smurf comic book, 'The Strange Awakening Of Lazy Smurf' was published.
• April 20 - The theme park, 'Big Bang Schtroumpfs' changed its name to 'Walibi Schtroumpf', Smurfs attractions at there were kept the same until 2003.

1992

• January 1 - The 16^th Smurf comic book, 'The Finance Smurf' was published. This was the last Smurfs comic book by Peyo before his death.
• December 24 - Peyo died of heart attack at the age of 63. Since then, his son Thierry Culliford continued his father's work.

1994

• January 1 - The 17^th Smurf comic book, 'The Jewel Smurfer' was published. This was the first comic book published since Peyo's death.
• Infogrames' 1994 Smurfs game was released in Europe for the Super Nintendo, the Game Boy, and the Nintendo Entertainment System.

1995

• Infogrames' 1994 Smurfs game was released in Europe for the Mega Drive, the Sega Master System, the Game Gear, and the Sega Mega CD.

1996

• October 26 - The 18^th Smurf comic book, 'Doctor Smurf' was published.
• The Smurfs Go Pop! album was released.
• The Smurf From Space comic book was published.
• Infogrames' 1994 The Smurfs game for the Nintendo Gameboy was given a limited release in North America.

1997

• June 7 - The 11^th Benny Breakiron comic book, 'The Southern Road' was published.

2003

• April 19 - The theme park 'Walibi Schtroumpf' changed its name to 'Walibi Lorraine' and re-opened on that day. However, all Smurf attractions were removed during renovations in the park during 2002 to 2003.
• November 1 - The 22^nd Smurf comic book, 'The Reporter Smurf' was published, featuring the comic debut of Reporter Smurf.

2004

• Beyond Home Entertainment acquired the DVD rights for the Smurfs cartoon show for Australia and New Zealand.

• November 27 - The Smurfs characters joined the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time.

2009

2010

• March 19 - Fabulous Films and Arrow Films secured the UK DVD rights to the Smurfs cartoon show, as well as 'The Smurfs And The Magic Flute'.
• April 16 - The 28^th Smurf comic book, 'The Grand Smurfette' was published.
• May 1 - The Smurfs became Belgium's Official Ambassador at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China. The expo ran from this day to October 31, and was a runaway success in full Smurfy style.
• Papercutz acquired the rights to the Smurfs graphic novels for translation from French to English for North America.
• August 31 - The first Smurfs comic book published by Papercutz, 'The Purple Smurfs', was also translated in English in North America.
