Plot Summary[]

The Whole Smurf And Nothing But The Smurf

Gargamel accidentally makes her "a lying horrible little Smurfette".

Smurfette is out in the forest picking fresh flowers when Harmony comes by, offering to play his Smurfette Sonata which he composed just for her. As he plays the song, however, the bad music causes the flowers in Smurfette's hand to wilt. Harmony asks her how she liked it, and Smurfette simply said that it could use more work, which makes him sigh and go back to work on his musical creation. Smurfette felt a bit sorry for Harmony and thinks that she should have told him that she liked the sonata. As she goes over to another patch of flowers to pick them, Gargamel was waiting right behind the flowers to pick her. The evil wizard demands his captive to tell him where the other Smurfs are, and Smurfette says she will never tell. Gargamel promises that by the end of the day, he will have her telling nothing but the truth.

In Gargamel's castle, while Azrael is busy watching over Smurfette in a cage, Gargamel is looking through his spell book for a formula that will make the little blond beauty sing like a canary. He first comes across a Fib Formula, which he laughs at and wonders who would ever need that, and then he finds the Truth Tonic. As he goes to prepare the ingredients for making it, Gargamel sees Azrael on the table ready to swipe a claw at Smurfette and throws one of his mixing bowls at the cat, causing him to leap off the table and onto the lectern where the spell book is. In his flight Azrael causes the pages to turn, which Gargamel doesn't notice as he prepares the ingredients for what he thinks is the Truth Tonic.

Soon it is ready, and Gargamel sprays it upon Smurfette, hoping that this will make her more cooperative as he asks her where the Smurf Village is so that he can make gold of the Smurfs. Smurfette tells him if he's looking for gold, he should go to the Great Oak Tree where the secret treasure of the Smurfs is located in a hollow high above the tree. Gargamel is so impressed by the information Smurfette is providing him that he goes to steal a ladder in order to get his hands on the gold, with Azrael following along. After they leave, Smurfette causes her cage to drop to the ground.

At the village dam, Papa Smurf and Brainy are busy doing an inspection with the village leader pounding on the wooden beams with a hammer when Smurfette comes running. Papa Smurf wonders where she's been, and Smurfette says that she's been down by the river playing with the dragonflies. Brainy says that he's been down by the river and hasn't seen her there, which makes Smurfette say that she must have been over by the mill playing with the butterflies. Papa Smurf simply lets the matter pass and hands her the hammer he borrowed from Handy, telling her to make sure she returns it to him.

When she enters the village, Smurfette finds Handy working on a washing machine for Baby's diapers. She gives Handy the hammer, who then goes to put it away, telling Smurfette to not let anyone touch his machine while he's gone. Smurfette promises she wouldn't, but as Farmer appears and wonders about the machine he's seeing, she tells him that it's Handy's new seed-planting smurfer and he wants Farmer to try it right away. Farmer decides to give the machine a try, but after he throws the switch, the machine gives Farmer a good washing and then hangs him out to dry before it self-destructs. Handy returns to see that his machine is ruined, and that Farmer had touched it. Farmer says that Smurfette told him Handy wanted him to try it out, which Smurfette instantly denies, causing the two male Smurfs to get into a fight with each other.

Papa Smurf comes along to break up the fight, and he discovers that Smurfette had lied to Farmer about Handy's machine. This makes him wonder what's going on, and as he goes into Smurfette's house, where she tells Harmony that she now likes his "improved" sonata (despite the fact that it still sounds horrible), Papa Smurf discovers that she can't tell the truth about anything. He tries one last question with her, asking if she's seen Gargamel that day, and she replies that she hasn't. He tells Smurfette that he's going to look something up in one of his books and instructs her to stay in her house, which she says she will. In his books, Papa Smurf finds out that Smurfette is under the influence of the Fib Formula and decides it's time to make up a remedy for it.

Meanwhile, out in the forest, Gargamel has his ladder set up at the Great Oak, ready to claim the secret treasure of the Smurfs. He climbs up and looks inside the hollow of the tree, seeing what he thinks is a pile of gold. But after he fell into the hollow of the tree, he finds that the gold is really honey and that Smurfette lied to him. Even worse is that he's now covered in honey and a swarm of bees is attracted to him.

Papa Smurf finally has the antidote ready and rushes into Smurfette's house only to find that she isn't there. He and several other Smurfs go off into the forest and see that Smurfette has been skipping along on the rocks by the riverside. But then Gargamel finds the Smurfs and chases after them. Papa Smurf gets separated from his little Smurfs as he dives into a bush, and they hide inside a rabbit hole. As Gargamel tries to find the Smurfs that are hiding, Brainy tells Smurfette to go have a look when she says she doesn't hear anything. She looks outside the hole and says that Gargamel is gone, which makes the other Smurfs leave their safety to soon be captured by the evil wizard. Pleased to have his six Smurfs for making gold, Gargamel stuffs them inside a bag and goes back to his lair singing his song. Papa Smurf follows after the wizard, hoping to catch up to Smurfette so that he could administer the antidote. However, a bear finds a puddle of honey that Gargamel leaves behind and goes to follow its trail.

In Gargamel's castle, the evil wizard demands the captured Smurfs to tell him where the secret treasure of the Smurfs is located. The Smurfs have no idea what Gargamel is even talking about, and Gargamel tells them that Smurfette told him all about it that morning. The Smurfs then say that Smurfette has been telling lies all morning, which Gargamel scoffs at, saying that he has given her a Truth Tonic. But when he looks at the spell book, he realizes that he has created the Fib Formula instead, and the Smurfs honestly tell Gargamel that Smurfette's lies have caused trouble in the village. Gargamel is rather amused at the idea of a Smurfette that lies, although she says it's a good thing Papa Smurf has cured her. While Gargamel is distracted, Papa Smurf pours the antidote into the atomizer before the evil wizard uses it, thinking it will make Smurfette tell nothing but lies. Then Smurfette sees a bear entering Gargamel's lair and tells the wizard. He believes that the Fib Formula has worked, but when he turns around, he sees that Smurfette was right and that he now has a hungry bear going after him for honey.

After Gargamel is chased out into the forest with the bear following him, Papa Smurf reveals what he has done to Gargamel's Fib Formula and frees his little Smurfs still trapped in the cage. Upon their return to the village, Smurfette apologizes for all the trouble her lying has caused, and Papa Smurf says he hopes everyone has learned a lesson about how much trouble lying can cause. This makes Harmony ask Smurfette if she really didn't like his music, and Papa Smurf tries to answer for her, saying that she likes it just about as much as he does. Harmony takes it to mean that she really likes his music and so breaks out his horn and plays. The other Smurfs are left holding their ears to block out the painful sound, with Handy saying that someone forgot to warn Papa Smurf that the truth hurts.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the only Season 4 episodes in which Clumsy Smurf does not appear. The other two are "Smurfette's Golden Tresses" and "Gargamel's Giant".
