Characters[]

Synopsis[]

Baby switches his rattle with a magic rattle of a little prince.

Plot Summary[]

A fairy mother flies with her infant child through a snowy landscape, trying to quiet him as she tells him there are bad fairies about. Then she sees the entrance to her grandfather's cave and flies there. She calls out to her grandfather, introducing herself as Fauna, and a robed figure comes out to greet them. Fauna notices that her grandfather's voice sounds different, which he tries to explain that it's the damp weather. He asks Fauna if he could hold the prince, but as she brings the child closer, the child cries fearfully, as if he senses something about the robed figure that isn't right. Soon the robed figure becomes more forceful and demands the child to be given to him. Fauna says that her grandfather isn't himself, but then the robed figure reveals himself to be Falan the fallen fairy. He wants Fauna to give up the magic rattle so that her child will be spared. But Fauna refuses, and the child uses the magic rattle to send Falan away while they flee to safety.

In the warm greenery of the Smurf Forest, Greedy is out on a picnic with Baby Smurf, introducing him to the Smurf cake while Baby plays with his rattle. Falan then appears, demanding the two Smurfs to give him the magic rattle until he realizes he isn't dealing with the fairy mother and her son. He does, however, ask if they have seen the fairy queen and her child, which Greedy answers that they haven't, and so Falan flies off.

Meanwhile, Fauna looks out from a hole in a tree she's hiding in, feeling hungry. She sees Greedy with his Smurf cakes on a stick, calling it a "smurf kebab", and her child decides to help himself and his mother to the cakes by shaking his magic rattle. Greedy then looks up and finds the ones responsible for stealing his cakes, which causes Fauna to drop one of them on Greedy's face. He demands the fairies to come down so he could "smurf them face to face", but with a shake of the magic rattle, Greedy rises to face them. Fauna explains that they dare not show themselves, for the evil fairy may yet still be lurking about. Then Greedy hears Baby crying and tells him he will be right down...and then realizes he was standing in midair before he falls. But with a shake of the magic rattle, Greedy lands safely on the ground, only to find Azrael charging straight towards them. Then another shake sends the cat flying until he lands in Gargamel's muck pond.

As Baby Smurf and the fairy child entertain each other, Fauna explains to Greedy that if Falan gets his hands on the magic rattle, he will be able to control all the good fairies and spread mischief throughout the land. During their playtime, the fairy child switches his magic rattle with Baby's, and Baby with the magic rattle causes rocks to float in the air. Then Fauna says that they must get back to Fairyland, and the two babies cry because they now have to part ways.

Brainy and Clumsy watch as Greedy brings Baby Smurf back into the village, with the village chef becoming rather exhausted, although Brainy comments that it's Baby Smurf that's all "smurfed out". As Clumsy now holds Baby Smurf, he finds out that it's time for a diaper change, and since he knows nothing about changing a diaper, Brainy is willing to offer his expertise on the subject. Clumsy, however, says he would rather do anything than change a diaper, and so Brainy has Clumsy clean out the clutter in his house while he performs the diaper change.

Brainy asks Clumsy to get powder out of the closet, but when Clumsy opens the closet, junk comes pouring out, which makes Brainy scold him by saying this mess needs to get cleaned up. Then Baby Smurf shakes the magic rattle, and all the stuff that came out of the closet goes right back in. Brainy and Clumsy both wonder how that happened, and then they look at Baby Smurf, who now shakes the magic rattle and goes flying through the village with the two Smurfs chasing after them. Baby Smurf flies over Smurfette's flower garden, knocks down Painter's easel, causes Lazy to roll over in his hammock -- all of which have Brainy crying out for Papa Smurf.

Out in the forest, Falan meets up with Fauna and her child at the riverside, snatching the rattle away from them. Fauna pleads with Falan for mercy for the child, but as Falan shakes the rattle, he finds out that its power doesn't work for him, unaware that it's an ordinary rattle with no power. Falan asks for the secret of the rattle, but Fauna tells him that she cannot reveal it, which only makes him more determined to find out.

Meanwhile, Brainy and Clumsy are trying to get Baby Smurf to come down from the tree branch he's on when he spots Azrael and says "puddyglaf". Brainy has no idea what "puddyglaf" means until he turns around and sees Azrael. But then a shake of the magic rattle sends the cat flying into the muck pond again

In Falan's castle, the evil fairy holds Fauna, her child, and another good fairy bound to pillars as he now discovers that the rattle he has isn't the magic rattle at all. He continues to press her for the truth, but Fauna is adamant in not giving in to his demands... until he shows a pit below a hole in the floor that he opens that has a vicious wild sabretooth cat. She finally tells Falan that the magic rattle is now in Baby Smurf's hands and that he and her child must have switched rattles.

Finally, Brainy and Clumsy are at a loss for how to get Baby Smurf down when Falan shows up, looking for Baby Smurf. Brainy asks Falan if he could get Baby Smurf down, and he is too eager to help, if only to help himself to the magic rattle. However, Baby Smurf shakes the rattle and sends Falan flying into Gargamel's muck pond, where he barely escapes Azrael.

Papa Smurf now takes a look into the problem of getting Baby Smurf to come down as he now floats in midair above him. He simply tells Baby Smurf to come down, and he drops right into Papa Smurf's arms. He takes a look at the rattle Baby Smurf has and sees that it's not his. Upon further examination, Papa Smurf sees that the rattle is magic. He has Greedy tell him if he's met any wizards, goblins, or fairies when he took Baby Smurf on a picnic, and Greedy says that he's met a fairy queen with her child, Prince Fenwick. From this Papa Smurf realizes that the two babies must have switched rattles.

Then Falan shows up and tells the Smurfs to give him the magic rattle. Greedy and Papa Smurf refuse to do so, saying that it belongs to Fauna and her child. Falan tells them that Fauna, her child, and her grandfather will perish if they don't give up the rattle. Papa Smurf reluctantly gives it up, but then he summons a group of Smurfs to go with him on Feathers to Falan's castle. When Greedy asks about Falan using the magic rattle, Papa Smurf reveals that he has covered it with an anti-magic powder to render it inoperable for one hour, which will hopefully give them enough time to reach the castle.

Meanwhile, Falan is pleased to have the magic rattle as well as the royal fairy family at his mercy, ready to drop them into the pit with the sabretooth cat when the sun through the magnifying lens burns through the rope holding them up. But then, the Smurfs show up and Falan finds himself unable to use the power of the magic rattle as Feathers then takes it from his grasp. Falan laughs as he still has the royal family ready to be sent to his doom with no way to save them. Papa Smurf then shakes the magic rattle, hoping that the anti-magic powder has worn off by now, but just after the rope snaps and the royal family falls into the pit, the rattle's power activates, and the fairies are lifted back up to safety, destroying Falan's throne. Papa Smurf then uses the rattle to free the family of their bonds, and they all fly off to safety as Falan is left to curse at the fairies, saying that he's not through with them, before he takes his throne and drops it onto the tiger in the pit.
