Synopsis

The Smurfs finds a child giant that was lost in the forest, but after a little conflict, he runs away and ends up under Gargamel's control.

Plot Summary

It was a peaceful night in the Smurf Village, until the thumping sounds of a person walking through the surrounding forest end up disturbing its peace, as the person walks across the Smurf Village Dam, creating fractures that cause it to break. The Smurfs soon wake up to the village being flooded with water, with Hefty pulling Papa Smurf to safety on top of a roof and then stringing a rope across some chimneys for more Smurfs to grab hold of a safety line. After that, they check up on the dam to see that an earthquake must have broken it, with Papa Smurf commenting that there hasn't been an earthquake in the forest since he was 102. As the Smurfs wonder what else could have broken the dam, they hear a lone voice wailing in the darkness. Smurfette wonders what that is, and Papa Smurf just says that he doesn't know.

Simon And The Smurfs

Some children are just very big problems.

The next day, the Smurfs are pulling a wagon of logs to the dam in order to repair it. Handy says that they're going to need a lot more wood to fix the dam, and Hefty says there's probably more on the other side of a yellow hill he was just pointing to. Clumsy doesn't remember ever seeing that hill before, and as the Smurfs check it out by standing upon it, they feel the hill moving and they also hear it snoring. Clumsy slips off the hill and sees that the hill is attached to a very big boy who is sleeping. Then the boy sneezes and the Smurfs also fall off what was the boy's head, with the boy waking up and wondering who the little blue men he sees are.

At the Smurf River Bridge, Papa Smurf is directing Grouchy with control of the crane to move some logs when Handy and his group of Smurfs come running to tell Papa Smurf that they have met a little giant. Tracker says that the boy was lost in the forest, but Papa Smurf has no idea what they are talking about until he sees the boy giant approaching. Handy introduces Papa Smurf to the boy called Simon, who tells the village leader that he went out to play and got lost and is now asking for help in getting home. As Papa Smurf tries to answer, Simon accidentally sits down on the Smurf River Bridge and breaks it, laughing afterward. Papa Smurf whispers to Hefty that he hopes they find his home soon or else the Smurfs may not have a home.

A little later on, as Greedy and a few Smurfs bring Simon a cake that they hope would satisfy his appetite, only to see him eat the whole thing, plate and all, in one bite, Papa Smurf is looking through his books for a way to bring the wayward boy giant home. But soon Simon comes thumping into the village because he's getting impatient waiting for his next cake. He sits down on top of Brainy's house and crushes it, causing the village intellectual to see stars. Papa Smurf comes out to scold Simon for coming into the village when he was clearly told not to, and Simon simply said that he just wanted to help out. He asks Papa Smurf if he doesn't like him anymore, and Papa Smurf tries to gently answer the boy by saying they just don't want him around in the village for the safety of the Smurfs. However, Simon misinterprets that as Papa Smurf not wanting him at all and tearfully runs through the village, crying for his mother and father while the other Smurfs run for safety. Papa Smurf tells the boy to wait in the forest while he goes to find where the boy's parents live.

Meanwhile, in Gargamel's castle, the evil wizard is fussing and fuming that it has been weeks since he has devised a plan to exterminate the Smurfs. As he pounds on the side of the window in frustration, he soon hears pounding of feet going through the forest. He recognizes that as the sound of a giant, and so he goes out into the forest to look for the giant, only to find himself standing on the boy giant's head. Simon then turns to see Gargamel, asking who he is looking for, and Gargamel answers that it's the boy he's seeking. Simon tells Gargamel that he probably doesn't like him anymore than the Smurfs do, which makes the evil wizard curious to find out that the boy has been to their village.

Thinking that this boy giant could help him destroy the Smurfs, Gargamel makes Simon believe he is the boy's friend and gives him a pinwheel toy he could play with, telling the boy to call him "Uncle Gargy". Leaving Simon outside to play with his toy, Gargamel prepares something that will help persuade the kind-hearted boy giant to turn on the Smurfs: a green crystal ring. He tells Simon to put on the ring, and it will lead him straight home. However, when Simon does put on the ring, it puts the boy into a hypnotic trance and under the control of his master Gargamel.

Soon, the Smurfs go out into the forest to look for Simon, as Papa Smurf has found in his books where the boy lives and they are ready to lead the boy home. But then the boy finds them, and Papa Smurf notices something strange about him. This is confirmed by Gargamel appearing out of the bushes, telling Simon to stop the Smurfs as they flee. with a single pound of Simon's foot, the Smurfs are all knocked flat on their backs unconscious. They soon wake up inside Simon's pocket as they see that Gargamel is trying to follow Simon straight to the Smurf Village, only he doesn't know the way. Smurfette wonders how Gargamel is controlling the boy, and Papa Smurf says he isn't sure until he sees the ring on the boy's finger and one on Gargamel's. He tells his little Smurfs that he will need a piece of the boy's ring that is bigger than Gargamel's ring.

Soon, Gargamel sees a patch of large mushrooms that he thinks is the Smurf Village and has Simon turn in that direction. The Smurfs see that they're nowhere near the village, and as Gargamel tries to threaten the Smurfs that are in what he thinks is the village, Hefty and Handy are busy chipping a piece from the boy's ring. Gargamel then tells Simon to stomp the village flat, and so the boy goes and stomps on all the mushrooms in the patch before he turns toward Gargamel. Papa Smurf then stops Simon from stomping the wizard flat and has him turn off in another direction. Gargamel sees that he no longer has any control over the boy giant, but then he no longer has any need for the boy as he sees that the boy has crushed the village. However, Gargamel discovers that the boy has just crushed a patch of mushrooms, leaving the wizard so frustrated with himself that he continually pounds his fists on a tree.

Meanwhile, as Simon continues onward while still under the control of the magic ring, Handy wonders how Papa Smurf would have control of the boy through a big enough piece of the crystal, and Papa Smurf says he has learned a thing or two in his years of living. Smurfette laughs at the thought of Gargamel running away from Simon the same way the Smurfs would run away from him, and Papa Smurf says to that is that it just goes to show how size is relative, explaining what that means to Clumsy. Tracker looks through Papa Smurf's books and sees in its map that they're on a direct course for the giant's homeland. Papa Smurf says that they'll keep the boy under the spell of the ring since he's still upset with the Smurfs, and tells the boy to go full speed ahead, which he complies.

After a while of crossing over a big mountain, the Smurfs riding on Simon are starting to feel hungry, and Tracker finds a smurfberry patch on the book's map that will take a detour to get to... a detour that requires crossing over a river, passing by an active volcano, and climbing up the side of a cliff. Yet the boy crosses through all the obstacles and brings the Smurfs safely to the smurfberry patch, but they see that the patch is down in a valley that they can't climb down into. Papa Smurf says that they'll have to stay hungry a while longer, but then Handy has an idea. With some calculations, he has Simon stomp in a certain spot that causes all the smurfberries on the bushes below to come flying up and bury the Smurfs in a big pile. Soon, the Smurfs have eaten their fill, and Simon even eats his share before they proceed onward to his home.

At nightfall, a female giant named Lydia is mourning for the loss of her child, and her husband Nelson tries to comfort her by saying they will find him. Outside the home, the Smurfs have brought Simon to their doorstep, and the couple joyfully receive him and the Smurfs, glad to have the boy back home again. After the Smurfs have enjoyed a dinner with them (or at least Greedy has enjoyed a giant cake), they leave Simon happy stting with his pet bear outside. Then Gargamel shows up and asks Simon what he did with the Smurfs, and Simon tells Gargamel that the Smurfs are his friends, and while "Uncle Gargy" gave him lots of things, he isn't his friend. Then Nelson goes outside and finds Gargamel talking to the boy, the sight of which makes the evil wizard flee in fear as Nelson and the bear chase after him. As the Smurfs watch Nelson chase Gargamel, Clumsy says he understands what Papa Smurf means by "size is relative", since Simon has some really big relatives. Papa Smurf just sighs and shrugs his shoulders as the story ends.
