"The Impostor King" is a Johan And Peewit episode that appeared in Season 2 of the 1980s Smurfs cartoon show.

Synopsis[]

A crook kidnaps the King and dresses up like him to steal the treasure from his castle.

Plot Summary[]

The episode begins with the Smurfs building a harp for Peewit's birthday. They are understandably excited.

Meanwhile, Peewit is in the royal kitchen baking a cake he makes until it expands too fast trapping him. The boy shouts for help to which Johan arrives fast. He cuts it into layers which makes Peewit jealous. Soon, a group of bandits are making a plan with a fake letter. They plan on stealing the royal jewels. Peewit and Johan are preparing his birthday cake. However, a trick by Biquette ruins it. Later, the King asks for the opinion of a goblet which Peewit isn’t impressed by. The King says it’s not for him but for a princes' wedding. The pair think it’s ridiculous, but Peewit thinks it’ll be funny to give it. Peewit is upset when they suggest giving him his guitar. Soon he is getting his robe done by the bandits from earlier. The bandit leader pokes him with a pin that knocks him out. Then they removed him while the bandit leader disguises himself as the King.

Dame Barbara asks the fake king about Princess Sabina's choice of attire. After a few moments, she begins to suspect something isn’t right. Soon, they enter the treasure room, and she leaves unaware that she was talking to a phony. Soon, the bandit leader is about to toss his bust of stolen jewels, but Johan stops him thinking he’s the real king. Soon, Dame Barbara arrives and asks what’s going on. Johan and the fake king explained what’s going on. Soon the jewels are ordered to be safeguarded. The next morning, Sabina is riding horses. Soon the fake king arrives and suggests Johan and Peewit he arrive with them. Sabina then sees that the King isn’t acting like himself especially when he says Peter, but she brushes it off. Later, the bandit leader decides to send a message to his henchmen via a crossbow. His henchmen read the note and complement his brilliance. Later, the boys are practicing juggling until Sabina tells them that she’s not going to his party, which greatly upsets Peewit. He asks for his present but Johan scolds him for not being polite. She tells him that they’ll both be escorting them which angers Peewit even more. Meanwhile, the bandits tied the real king to a tree. He threatens them that they will be sorry when Peewit and Johan find them. However, they’re both loading up a carriage for the wedding. Peewit trips on Dame Barbara, which launch the bust in the air. However, Johan catches it which relieves the fake king. Soon they’re on their way and Peewit sings which annoys everyone as always. However, he stops himself when he remembers that he’s missing his party. Johan tells him they’ll be understanding and Peewit hope so or else his days of playing for the King are over otherwise. Meanwhile, the real king is shouting for help only to attract wolves and then he tries to shoo them, but it angers them. He then tries to escape.

Meanwhile, the Smurfs are hauling his harp, wishing the others could help them but due to the harvest time, they’re busy.

Meanwhile, the henchmen are trying to stop the carriage anyway possible including knocking a boulder near it. However, it causes a rockslide which nearly kills the royals. They escape with their lives but only barely, However, the henchman knows that counter them again at falcon's rock. Soon meanwhile, the Smurfs are near the pond which Peewit recognized as being nearby, they meet him there due to a royal coach arriving. Peewit jumps off the couch excited for his birthday present. This causes Johan to stop the coach and chase after him along with the fake king and Sabina. At the pond, Peewit tells them the bad news which greatly upsets the Smurfs. He tells them that there’s a wedding. However, the Smurfs are happy to see their friends again. The fake king catches up and is taking back by the Smurfs. This raises a few red flags in Johan and Peewit. Dame Barbara calls them all back. However, the Smurfs give him his harp. Peewit is really excited with his new harp. Johan then calls him to the carriage. Meanwhile, the real king is rounded by some wolves, close to giving up. Meanwhile, the fake king has had his music grow on him. The girls become suspicious of this. Meanwhile, the Smurfs are on their way when they hear the real king in peril. Papa Smurf is suspicious of the wolves. Soon, the two bandit henchmen toss a log in with the carriage wheels. Meanwhile, the wolves are about to attack when the Smurfs arrive and save the King.

Meanwhile, Johan and Peewit are rescuing the carriage. The King breaks free from his ropes but is frozen with fear with the wolves as the Smurfs chase them off. The King is very grateful to them for saving him. He then tells them that the Royals are in great danger. Sabina asks what caused the accident, but Johan shows that it was no accident someone has sabotaged them. The two bandits then capture Peewit and Sabina and threaten them unless they get the jewels. The king imposter then tells them the location of the jewels. Peewit in one of the henchmen get into a tug-of-war with the harp until it breaks. The fake king tries to stop Johan from attacking the bandits. However, he stops one of them and the outraged Peewit fights the other for breaking his harp. They get tossed in a bush. However, they get back up. He escorts the princess into the coach and the fake king tries to get them to surrender the jewels. However, Subpoena knock them unconscious with the carriage door. As they are on their way, Dean Barbara scowls Subpoena for doing what she did, however she becomes grateful. The real king and the Smurfs are running when suddenly the King gets exhausted. They suggest he rests while they go on ahead. Papa Smurf and the King hope that the bad guys get defeated. Later that night, the Royals are eating dinner when the fake king announces he’s full, however he hardly ate a single bite. Later, Johan and Sabina are discussing the weird stuff that happened that day. Peewit asked what’s going on, but Johan suggests he be quiet. A suspicious Johan then tells him that he doesn’t eat much he likes his music, he has no idea who the Smurfs are. He wonders what’s going on when Peewit jokes about it. However, Johan and Sabina suspect an imposter. Peewit tries to get him to talk, however Johan thinks they’ll put the King in more danger than he already is. They decide to keep a close eye on him. Dean Barbara tells Sabina to come along. Soon, they're asleep in the woods, which Johan didn’t want to. The fake king then pokes Johan with the same pin that he used to knock the King out. He later uses it on Sabina. The bandits then steal the carriage. The Smurfs arrive and they see what’s going on and they think it’s too late, however the Smurfs decide to chase the coach. A few moments later, the real king and Papa Smurf arrive on the scene. Jokey's box wakes Peewit up. However, he thinks the real king is the fake king, but Jokey stops him. Unbeknownst to the bandits, the Smurfs leap on the carriage and make a trail of jewels. Papa Smurf has successfully woken Johan and Sabina from their slumber. Johan wonders how he can catch the bandits. Peewit then summons for some cats and Johan‘s horse. Sabina decides to join them. Vanity gets the idea of making a trail with the jewels. Peewit sees the trail and Johan follows. The Smurfs lost hope when they see there’s no more jewels until Smurfette sees that Johan and Peewit are chasing the carriage with the bandits. Harmony announces them which Peewit recognizes. Then they chase the imposter and its bandits. The two bandit henchmen then try to fight back but are defeated. The three bandits are now defeated, and Johan and Peewit go to pick up the jewels.

They arrive at the castle of the wedding and Peewit complains about his attire. The Smurfs are pleased with Princess Sabina's dress. Peewit is told to bring the present by the real king. However, he drops it. Johan saves it and Peewit says that he always does it, but he accidentally breaks it. Angered by the damage, Dame Barbara chases Peewit around the castle as the episode ends.
