The episode begins as Papa Smurf, Brainy, Clumsy, Smurfette, and a few others stumble across a Black Hellebore, "one of the evilest plants in the world" while gathering herbs. Papa Smurf destroys the flower and promises to talk more about why they are evil later. Ominously, another flower sprouts next to the smashed one.

At the King's castle, Chloderic, a disgruntled potion maker, uses a potion to put The King to sleep, offering to provide the antidote in exchange for 1,000 gold pieces. Sir Johan and Peewit have Chloderic thrown in the dungeon instead and seek help from Homnibus and the Smurfs to find the antidote. They manage to wake the king, and Chloderic is banished, vowing revenge. He and his henchmen capture Hefty, Brainy, and Smurfette as they spy on him and overhear his plot to invade the castle. He uses the Black Hellebore flowers to hypnotize the Smurfs and sends them into the castle to get the guards to lower its defenses. Sir Johan, Peewit, Princess Sabina, the King, and the Smurfs manage to stop Chloderic and his henchmen from taking over, and they are put to gardening instead as punishment.

The end of the episode involves Peewit landing in the produce cart, which makes Dame Barbara laugh at the sight of Peewit's misfortune.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode of the series in which Greedy does not appear in.
  • In this episode, Hellebore flowers put any person (or Smurf) who smells them into a trance, causing them to mindlessly follow orders. The effects of the Hellebore flower last one hour, regardless of whether on Smurfs or humans.
  • The instrument that Peewit plays is called a hurdy-gurdy.
  • It is implied that Sir Johan loses swords rather frequently.
  • Hellebore plants exist in the real world and are relatively harmless.
  • This is the first episode of Johan nd Peewit to feature Princess Sabina and Dame Barbara.
  • Before Hefty, Brainy, and Smurfette find the Hellebore flower, as Hefty is talking, he is animated with teeth, which is unusual for Smurfs to regularly be seen with. It is more common to see them with teeth in the CGI productions.

Goofs[]

  • When Brainy and Clumsy bump into each other, Clumsy's hat is a normal Smurf hat.
