Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The Smurfs' theatre presents their adaption of The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Plot Summary[]

The episode begins with Brainy introducing the theatrical production of The Adventures Of Robin Smurf And His Merry Smurfs to the audience gathered around the Smurf Theater as Papa Smurf conducts the orchestra. The introduction takes a bit long since Brainy has to elaborate upon himself being the most important part of the show before he is pulled off the stage and the show begins.

Act I[]

Robin Smurf And Maid Marian

"You know it's true... everything I do... I do it for... me, of course!"

Tracker, Lazy, and Sloppy appear as guards for Prince John (Brainy), who enters the guard room of the castle, asking if they have collected the taxes from the Surf Smurfs. They answer that the taxes were stolen by Robin Smurf, which makes Prince John so mad that he pounds on the table, causing it to collapse. Prince John then calls Maid Marian (Smurfette) into the room to ask for her help in defeating Robin Smurf. She says that Prince John will need the most brilliant, ruthless, and feared person in all of Nottingsmurf, which encourages him to call forth the Sheriff of Nottingsmurf (Clumsy), who arrives only to knock down the backdrops. Handy briefly appears on stage to put the backdrops back in place. The rest of the act then shifts from the stage set to a real-world setting.

Prince John sets forth his plan to capture Robin Smurf: he takes the Smurfs present to the vault where the last of the taxes collected from the peasants are being held, and with some coaching from Maid Marian, he tells the Sheriff that he will go out into Smurfwood Forest with the guards and trick Robin Smurf into attacking him so that he will capture him. The guards tell Prince John that they all have other things to take care of first, but Prince John tells them that if they don't go with the Sheriff, they will be locked up in prison, which makes them more compliant.

Out in Smurfwood Forest, the Merry Smurfs are enjoying a song being sung, with Little John (Hefty) patting the mandolin player on the back, knocking the instrument out of his hand and sending it flying into Robin Smurf's (Vanity) tent, hitting him in the process. Soon, Maid Marian appears on a toad back to warn Robin Smurf and the others about Prince John's plans. Little John spots the Sheriff and the guards riding through the forest on toads, posing as mere passersby. Robin Smurf tells his fellow Smurfs to get into position as they prepare for an ambush. As the riders get close enough, Robin jumps down from a branch and demands them to hand over their smurfberries. The riders reveal themselves as Prince John's guards and surround Robin, brandishing their swords. Robin then calls the Merry Smurfs to come out of hiding, with one of them swooping down on a rope to snag all the guards' swords.

But then, Maid Marian sneezes and falls off a branch onto one of the toads that rides away, with Maid Marian calling for help. Robin rides off after Maid Marian and rescues her from the runaway toad by leaping from his toad onto hers and then leaping with her in his arms onto a branch. Maid Marian is so grateful that she tells Robin Smurf that she loves him, and Robin says that he can't blame her for saying that. Soon with the guards and the Sheriff rounded up and the sack of smurfberries in his possession, not to mention their "noble steeds", Robin Smurf sends them on their way and tells them that until King Richard returns, he and the Merry Smurfs will continue to fight Prince John to ensure "truth, justice, and the smurfy way..." before he takes a break to admire himself.

Back at the castle, Prince John is stomping mad that his plan has been foiled by Robin Smurf, while the Sheriff and the guards are soaking their feet from a long walk back. Tracker insists that Maid Marian must have let Robin Smurf in on the plans, which Prince John dismisses on the grounds that he knows that Maid Marian loves him. As the prince goes on about the first time, he and Maid Marian met each other, he comes up with a brilliant plan of an archery tournament, which he knows Robin Smurf will win, since Robin couldn't resist participating in it, and that by winning the tournament Prince John's Smurfs will know who to capture.

While the Sheriff posts the notice about the archery contest, which some of the Merry Smurfs read, Maid Marian is paid a visit by Prince John in her chambers to tell her about his plan to capture Robin Smurf with the archery contest. Maid Marian is almost caught off-guard as she initially reacts with surprise, but then immediately covers it up and hastily agrees with the plan's brilliance while Prince John just goes on and on about how he and Maid Marian will be happy together when Robin Smurf is out of the way, and they will be married. Unnoticed by Prince John, Maid Marian goes out to tell Robin Smurf that the archery tournament is a trap. Robin Smurf tells her not to worry about him, and that the peasants have the right to see his brilliant archery.

At the tournament, the Sheriff goes first, pulling out a bunch of arrows from his quiver and sending three of them flying, with one of them falling just short of hitting the target. Prince John then has one of his guards pull out that arrow and stick it into the target to make it look like the Sheriff hit the bullseye. Then Robin Smurf appears as a disguised contestant and, with his special bow, fires a shot that goes around the tree and hits the bullseye from the back of the target. Prince John recognizes the contestant as Robin Smurf and has his guards arrest him and put him in the dungeon, where he is not only chained, but also has his bow and mirror taken away, the latter of which makes Robin Smurf cry, as Act I come to a close.

Act II[]

At the beginning of Act II, Prince John goes through his kingdom to find all the peasants with the smurfberries stolen by Robin Smurf and to put them in prison, where he shows them, they have no hope of being rescued. Out in Smurfwood Forest, the Merry Smurfs wonder what they're going to do without Robin Smurf when Maid Marian appears onto them to give them disguises so that they can rescue their leader. They sneak into the castle as guards and free Robin Smurf from his prison. Upon their escape, though, they run into the Sheriff, whom they fool by saying that they're moving Robin to another prison. He just casually goes off and lets them do their business while they laugh at his stupidity.

Meanwhile, out on a balcony overlooking the forest, Prince John is alone with Maid Marian, trying to propose marriage to her when the Sheriff interrupts the moment by telling the prince that the guards are moving Robin Smurf. Prince John just dismisses the Sheriff and goes back to Maid Marian before he realizes that the guards must be Robin's Merry Smurfs and calls for his own guards to go after them. This makes Robin and the Merry Smurfs flee for the drawbridge, only to find that it is closed up and the peasant Smurfs are waiting for it to be lowered so they can escape. Little John finds Robin Smurf admiring himself in a mirror and warns him about the drawbridge. Robin fires an arrow that snaps the rope holding up the drawbridge, causing it to be lowered and for the peasants and the Merry Smurfs to escape. After leaving the castle, Robin fires another arrow to snap the rope holding up the gate, causing it to be lowered so that Prince John and the Sheriff couldn't go after them.

Prince John realizes Maid Marian's hand in helping Robin Smurf and decides to put her in the tower. One of the peasant Smurfs goes to warn Robin Smurf about this, and he and his Merry Smurfs decide to take action. While Prince John tells the Sheriff and his guards about how he will tax the two halves of the kingdom, Robin Smurf and most of the Merry Smurf prepare to be launched into the castle. Robin Smurf goes in first, appearing in the room and Prince John and his Smurfs are in. Prince John tells Robin Smurf that he is outnumbered, but then most of the Merry Smurfs are launched into the room, outnumbering Prince John's Smurfs who then surrender. Prince John then makes a run for it, taking Maid Marian with him to the battlements of the castle when they encounter Robin Smurf cutting off his escape. As Prince John and Robin Smurf duel with each other, the last Merry Smurf (Harmony) tries to launch himself into the castle when King Richard (Jokey) arrives to give him a hand. He goes flying and tackles Prince John, sending the both of them falling into the moat.

With King Richard back on his throne and Prince John deposed, Robin Smurf is commended by the king for preserving his kingdom, and Maid Marian rewards the noble Smurf with a kiss. She expects to get a kiss back from Robin Smurf, but instead he kisses his mirror, which makes the other Smurfs laugh.

After the show ends, Brainy makes on final appearance on stage to offer his own critique on the performance, saying that he would have made a better Robin Smurf than Vanity, before he gets pulled off the stage.
