Tamar was a rich and powerful leader of a people in ancient Africa who appeared in the Smurfs cartoon show Season 9 episode “The Golden Rhino”. He was a greedy ruler who wanted to turn everything in his palace into gold. To this end, he captured a pair of golden rhinos, rhinos which could turn objects into gold with their magical golden horns. But later, the captive rhinos had not enough power to continue transforming objects into gold as they needed to eat some special berries to renew their strength. Tamar decided to catch another golden rhino, which turned out to be the rhino pair's son Rahdu, and which belonged to the time-lost Smurfs' new human friend Prince Pricari. He sent his men to capture it and they succeeded, also bringing Brainy Smurf turned into gold as a gift. Tamar used Rahdu to carry on his parents' task, turning his palace objects into gold. When Handy Smurf and Clumsy Smurf, along with Pricari and his pet animals went to stop Tamar and save Rahdu and Brainy, he captured them all except for Pricari. But Pricari saved the Smurfs and his animals later, including all the golden rhinos. Soon there was a boat chase between Pricari and Tamar as he tried to prevent them from escaping. He almost succeeded as Pricari’s ship was wrecked. Unfortunately for Tamar, he and his own boat sank into the ocean as the rhinos turned it into gold.
