Chlorhydris plans to destroy all the flowers on Earth by capturing Laconia, the wood elf.

Plot Summary[]

Out in the Smurf Forest, Vanity is plucking petals off a flower, saying "I love me...I love me not...I love me...I love me not..." before he throws away the flower, saying how silly it is for he does love himself. He kisses his reflection in the mirror before his moment of passion is interrupted by a rumbling nearby. Vanity sees that it is Chlorhydris riding through the forest in her carriage with her driver Reeves, and she is sick with all the love that's in the air which is making her sneeze. Vanity rushes to the village while Chlorhydris has Reeves take her back to the castle, for she has an evil plan brewing in her mind.

Inside her castle, Chlorhydris reads in one of her books that Woodelf Grove contains one sample of every flower in the world, and that every morning Laconia wakes up and makes all the flowers bloom by striking her wand at each flower in the grove. She then closes her book, saying that she will capture Laconia and wipe out every single flower on the face of the earth of her name isn't Chlorhydris.

Out in the forest, Papa Smurf and Nat meet up with Laconia, who silently tells her friends that one of her butterflies has broken its wing. She brings them to the injured butterfly, to whom Nat promises that he will have it up and flying in no time. Meanwhile, Chlorhydris rides back out into the forest with her driver, bringing along an elf-eating snapdragon seed that she hopes to plant into the ground to capture Laconia. Eager to please his mistress, Reeves digs a deep enough hole in the ground for the seed to take root, though he splatters her face with dirt. After planting the seed in the ground, Chlorhydris places a spell on the seed so that it will grow and become the plant she desires it to be.

Soon, Laconia's butterfly friend is back to good health, as she through sign language thanks Nat Smurf for his help. Papa Smurf tells Laconia that they must get going, for Nat has a snake with a belly ache to tend to. However, they don't get far before they see an unusual flower that none of them remember ever seeing before. The wood elf tries to wake up the flower, but upon awakening it sucks her up inside it along with Nat and Papa Smurf. A similar flower automatically sprouts up inside Chlorhydris' castle and spits out its three captives, whom the evil witch takes with her, saying that she's going to make her castle their new home.

After Papa Smurf, Nat, and Laconia are placed in glass cages, Chlorhydris brews up a formula that would change the wood elf's magic wand so that it would cause flowers to die instead of blossom when they are struck with it. She dips the magic wand into the formula, and soon the evil witch is out in the forest striking each and every flower in the grove. In the meantime, Nat and Papa Smurf watch as Laconia is weakened with each flower in the grove dying. Papa Smurf tells Nat that her life force is tied to the flowers, and that if all the flowers die, the wood elf would fall into a deep sleep from which she will never awaken.

Smurfette notices the effects that Chlorhydris' final casting with the altered magic wand had caused as the flowers in her garden all die, as Nat and Papa Smurf also notice helplessly that Laconia is lying lifeless in her cage. She and three other Smurfs go out into the forest and notice the floral damage all around them, with Vanity noticing that there's no Laconia around. Brainy, however, sees that one flower isn't affected -- the magical snapdragon that Chlorhydris had planted. Smurfette warns Brainy to be careful, but soon the snapdragon sucks all four of them up and they travel through its roots to the other snapdragon in the evil witch's lair, which they discover they have ended up in. The four Smurfs climb up the vines and overhear Chlorhydris planning to destroy the wand so that its power can never be used to restore the plants, and after that she will put Papa Smurf and Nat out of their misery as well.

Smurfette realizes that they're going to need to help of Laconia's insect friends to get the wand out of Chlorhydris' hands, and to do that they must travel through the snapdragons' roots. They struggle through the powerful draft that the snapdragons are emitting as they crawl through the roots to get back into the forest. Smurfette tells Laconia's insect friends that the wood elf needs their help and to follow the three Smurfs back into Chlorhydris' lair while she goes to get some rope. Soon they go back through the roots, this time with the insects following them.

Meanwhile, Chlorhydris is in ecstasy as she is preparing to destroy the wand and the Smurfs and Laconia with it. However, her moment of expected celebration is cut short when the Smurfs appear with a swarm of insects coming after her. The evil witch screams as she drops the wand and heads out of the window to jump into the moat to get rid of the swarm of insects. After the four Smurfs get Papa Smurf, Nat, and Laconia out of their cages, the village leader takes the wand and the Smurfs take Laconia with them as they travel through the snapdragons again back into the forest, where he uses the altered wand to destroy the snapdragon, causing it to wilt.

While the Smurfs gently place Laconia on a flower petal in Wood Elf Grove to rest, Papa Smurf restores the power of the wand and gives it to Nat to make the flowers bloom once more. As he strikes each and every flower in the grove, Laconia feels her life spirit returning until she is fully revived. She thanks Nat, saying that he is a "smurfy friend". Brainy tries to take the opportunity to tell Laconia a funny story, showing that he's been learning sign language, but all he gets is a catapult, to which he signs "Ouch".
