In that hole Clumsy lands on a staircase that leads down into a chamber that has been abandoned for years. On a lectern Clumsy finds [[Kaplowey Scroll|a scroll]] that looks like something he should show [[Papa Smurf]]. Back at the village, Papa Smurf sees that the scroll is written in an ancient tongue, so he takes it into his study to find out. [[Brainy Smurf|Brainy]] offers to help Papa Smurf figure it out, but Papa Smurf politely refuses. Out in the forest, [[Gargamel]] is looking at his map trying to figure out where the mysterious wizard's chamber is.
 Soon Papa Smurf has the language of the scroll figured out and tries to read the first word to his little Smurfs, but [[Sloppy Smurf|Sloppy]]'s pet [[Fly]] is distracting him. Then suddenly Papa Smurf says "kaplowey"...and Fly disappears in a puff of smoke! Sloppy wonders what happened to Fly, and so do the other Smurfs who are wondering what Papa Smurf just did. Then the village leader reads the rest of the scroll, which goes like this: ''Powerful is he who speaks the magic word, and weep for that at which the magic word is directed against, for it will vanish and be banished from this world, and woe unto him who speaks the magic word in perilous anger.''

 In [[Papa Smurf]]'s laboratory, the village leader leaves [[Brainy Smurf|Brainy]] in charge to make sure his potion doesn't burn while he steps out for a while. Although Brainy is all too eager to express how much Papa Smurf can trust him with such a job, he also warns Brainy to keep an eye on the potion. As Brainy begins his watch, he hears snoring going on outside the laboratory, which is ruining his concentration. He finds Lazy outside and scolds him for his slothfulness, though in so doing he ignores Papa Smurf's potion, which is now burning in the pot, until he sees smoke coming from it. Brainy quickly puts out the fire with a bucket of water, saying that at least Papa Smurf didn't see it happen, until he sees the village leader staring at him with angry eyes. He says that Brainy has burned up the last of the elmwood leaves and now he has to go get more. Brainy offers to help Papa Smurf collect the elmwood leaves, but he refuses it, saying that Brainy has "helped" him enough for one day. He tells his little Smurfs that he is going to Smurf Swamp to gather up elmwood leaves, instructing them to stay out of trouble while he's gone.

Noticing the problem his fellow Smurfs are now having, Handy is inspired to build yet another machine, and all through the night Papa Smurf could hear the noise of Handy hard at work constructing that machine.

 This was an episode in which [[Clockwork Smurf]] was targetted in order to control [[King Gerard]]'s kingdom. Sir Leopold, the king's uncle, had a plan to take the throne and rule over the country as a dictator: his idea consisted of raising taxes, ending programs to help the poor, and put children to work. The only thing standing in his way was his good-hearted nephew who took advice from Clockwork.
 After several failed attempts to destroy the doll, Leopold managed to send him into a fountain, thus rusting up his gears. Too distraught over the loss of his advisor, King Gerard left his uncle to attend to his state affairs. At the same time, [[Sir Johan]], [[Peewit]], his cousin [[Princess Savina]], and [[Dame Barbara]] were travelling to his castle having been invited to a celebration. When they arrived, Leopold tried to send them away only for King Gerard to see them and invite them into the castle. There he told them what happened to Clockwork and Johan suggested they take him to [[Handy Smurf]] - his majesty agrees, so they set off while Dame Barbara stays behind.

 It is a nice quiet day out in the [[Smurf Forest]] that [[Smurfette]] enjoys, just sitting by a tree writing in her diary until she realizes it's time for lunch and so she goes off to pick a basket full of [[smurfberry|smurfberries]]. She leaves her diary by the tree, unaware that a [[Smurfs (race)|Smurf]] that was watching her from behind the tree is now creeping toward the diary to find out if she was written anything about him in it. But as he pores through the pages to find out, Smurfette calls out his name, [[Nosey Smurf (real)|Nosey]], and he ends up dropping the diary into the pond. She dives in to rescue it, saying that it's now ruined, and though Nosey offers to shake it out to dry, she takes the diary from him and walks off, complaining that he's so nosy.
 Later on in the village, Nosey smells something good cooking in [[Greedy Smurf|Greedy]]'s kitchen. He sneaks in, thinking nobody will notice if he takes a peek, and opens the oven door to find out that it's a souffle, but then it suddenly collapses. Greedy comes in and finds out what Nosey has done, chasing the curious Smurf out of his kitchen by hurling pies at him. Nosey soon sees [[Brainy Smurf|Brainy]] and [[Clumsy Smurf|Clumsy]] standing at the door of [[Papa Smurf]]'s [[Papa Smurf's laboratory|laboratory]] and asks what's going on in there, and both of them refuse to let Nosey find out, saying that it's a super-secret experiment and they have orders to keep every Smurf out, including Nosey of all Smurfs. But Nosey sees an open window and climbs in to watch Papa Smurf add the final ingredient, only to interrupt him at a crucial moment with a question, causing an explosion in the laboratory. Nosey wonders what he has done, and Papa Smurf tells him that he has ruined the experiment.

 Out in the forest, Dreamy is resting near a tree, looking up at the sky and wondering if there is any life up there. Then he hears Hefty calling his name, and Dreamy thinks it's someone up in the sky calling to him, but it turns out to be just Hefty, who was looking for him. Soon Dreamy joins the Smurfs in carrying the axle, but his mind is too focused on wondering whether there's life in outer smurf, causing his fellow Smurfs to veer off course and run down a hill into the water. Dreamy's meditations were making Hefty so angry that he tells his fellow Smurf that there is no life in outer smurf, but there is life down here, and the other Smurfs say that Dreamy should start paying attention to it.

 Out on a bright sunny morning, [[Smurfette]] is busy picking flowers in her garden when she sees a dark pair of eyes hiding in it that makes her scream. Four [[Smurfs (race)|Smurfs]] respond to her cry for help, saying that there's a horrible monster in her garden. But as they investigate, it turns out to be [[Lazy Smurf|Lazy]] who's trying to get some sleep in her garden. He tells his fellow Smurfs that he's trying to find a nice place to sleep because he couldn't sleep a wink, which makes his fellow Smurfs react in disbelief. Later on, [[Greedy Smurf|Greedy]] is busy in his kitchen mixing up a recipe when he goes into his cupboard and gets spooked by Lazy being in it trying to sleep. He shoos Lazy out of his kitchen, not caring if his fellow Smurf never sleeps again. Still later, [[Clumsy Smurf|Clumsy]] goes to the village well after carrying a wagon full of wood so he could get a drink of water, and Lazy shows up again, spooking Clumsy to the point where he goes rolling down the hill with his wagon and knocking over other Smurfs.
 Lazy's insomnia problem has made his fellow Smurfs angry with him for all the trouble his trying to find a nice place to sleep has caused. [[Brainy Smurf|Brainy]] tells Lazy that he should go to [[Papa Smurf]] about his problem, which he then explains to the village leader. Lazy asks if there's a potion Papa Smurf could give him that would help him fall asleep, but Papa Smurf tells him the only thing that could help Lazy with his problem is plenty of plain old exercise. Lazy couldn't stand the thought of having to do exercise just to be able to sleep again and so leaves Papa Smurf's house. Then [[Vanity Smurf|Vanity]] rushes in after Lazy has left, handing the village leader his poor sick plant, saying that it's all wrinkled. Vanity wonders if its condition is catching, but Papa Smurf tells his little Smurf to go home and rest while he sees what he can do for the plant.

 It was a peaceful night in the [[Smurf Village]] until the thumping sounds of a person walking through the surrounding forest end up disturbing its peace, as the person walks across the [[Smurf Village Dam]], creating fractures that cause it to break. The [[Smurfs (race)|Smurfs]] soon wake up to the village being flooded with water, with [[Hefty Smurf|Hefty]] pulling [[Papa Smurf]] to safety on top of a roof and then stringing a rope across some chimneys for more Smurfs to grab hold of a safety line. After that, they check up on the dam to see that an earthquake must have broken it, with Papa Smurf commenting that there hasn't been an earthquake in the forest since he was 102. As the Smurfs wonder what else could have broken the dam, they hear a lone voice wailing in the darkness. [[Smurfette]] wonders what that is, and Papa Smurf just says that he doesn't know.
 The next day, the Smurfs are pulling a wagon of logs to the dam in order to repair it. [[Handy Smurf|Handy]] says that they're going to need a lot more wood to fix the dam, and Hefty says there's probably more on the other side of a yellow hill he was just pointing to. [[Clumsy Smurf|Clumsy]] doesn't remember ever seeing that hill before, and as the Smurfs check it out by standing upon it, they feel the hill moving and they also hear it snoring. Clumsy slips off the hill and sees that the hill is attached to a very big boy who is sleeping. Then the boy sneezes and the Smurfs also fall off what was the boy's head, with the boy waking up and wondering who the little blue men he sees are.

 The story begins with [[Gargamel]] ranting and raving over capturing the [[Smurfs (race)|Smurfs]] only to constantly lose them. He shows his cat [[Azrael]] a potion that he will spray on the Smurfs the moment he captures them one by one. He sprays a bit of the potion on a flower and sees it turn to stone, casually tossing it onto Azrael's head before it lands on the ground with its leaves broken. Soon, he says, the forest will be littered with little bits of stone Smurfs, as he and his cat laugh maliciously at the thought.
 Meanwhile, [[Smurfette]], [[Tracker Smurf|Tracker]], and [[Lazy Smurf|Lazy]] are out in the forest gathering herbs for [[Greedy Smurf]]'s soup -- or rather, Smurfette and Tracker are doing most of the work while Lazy is taking a nap. When Smurfette asks Lazy if he found any herbs, he gets up and makes it look like he's going to find it somewhere else when he's really just looking for another place to doze off. His snoring gets picked up by Gargamel, who sees that a Smurf is nearby, and soon the evil wizard has Lazy in his grasp.
 Lazy cries for help, which Smurfette and Tracker immediately respond to, as Gargamel sprays a bit of the petrifying potion toward his captive Smurf, who ducks out of the way of the spray as it petrifies a nearby tree branch instead. Lazy then bites Gargamel's hand, causing him to let go and drop the Smurf onto the ground, bouncing off Azrael's head. The wizard and his cat give chase to Lazy, who escapes them by being pulled into a rabbit hole by Smurfette and Tracker, who signal him to be quiet.
