"Mutiny On The Smurf" is a Season 5 episode from the Smurfs cartoon show.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

An evil musician wants the Smurflings to play their music for him, but he accidentally captures Brainy's orchestra.

Plot Summary[]

On what appears to be a beach, a group of Smurfs is pretending to be an orchestra, with Brainy as the conductor. The Smurfs play badly, much to Brainy’s chagrin, while the Smurflings watch and laugh at the ineptitude of the orchestra. Slouchy remarks that they’re usually better musicians than that. Brainy decides that they take it from the top and asks the other Smurfs if they have any other suggestions. Greedy suggests that they go get smurf cream cones, so they all run to get smurf cream cones, leaving Brainy to muse about his efforts to inject some culture into his fellow Smurfs' lives before noticing that the other Smurfs have gone away, and then hastily follows after them. After briefly considering joining the adult Smurfs for smurf cream cones, the Smurflings decide to play orchestra. Discovering that Brainy had the notes upside down, the Smurflings play a beautiful, jazzy version of the smurf song.

Mutiny On The Smurf 1

Meanwhile, on Pink Pelican Island, King Symphonium sees a ship approaching. Remarking that no one visits King Symphonium without an invitation, the King blows the ship away and remarks that he’ll send the next uninvited ship he sees to the bottom of the ocean. He then hears the Smurflings play “The Smurf Song,” and decides that that sound is exactly what he needs for his organ.

The adult Smurfs return to their instruments, and Brainy angrily tells the Smurflings that the instruments are not toys, causing the Smurflings to flee from the scene. As the Smurfs resume playing the instruments (badly), a pink pelican swoops some of them up (including Smurfette and Harmony). Brainy rushes to tell Papa Smurf what has happened, and Papa Smurf discovers in one of his books that pink pelicans live on Pink Pelican Island, where King Symphonium lives alone. Dreamy surmises that the King has abducted the Smurfs, which makes Papa Smurf acknowledge that that is a possibility. Dreamy remarks that the Smurf II is ready to set sail at a moment’s notice, so Captain Dreamy, Brainy, Clumsy, Vanity, and Painter set sail to rescue the others. The Smurflings ask the adult Smurfs whether they can go as well, but they are told it is too dangerous, and so they decide to secretly stow away on the Smurf II.

Aboard the Smurf II, Captain Dreamy asks a Smurf to climb up to the top of the mast. When Brainy remarks that he is afraid of heights, Clumsy volunteers. When he is at the top, Clumsy is asked by Dreamy to grab a pulley. Clumsy fails to do so and falls on top of Dreamy. As Clumsy falls on top of Dreamy, Dreamy falls on top of the Smurflings and is knocked unconscious, causing the Smurflings to be discovered. Because Papa Smurf had asked Brainy to be the navigator, Brainy assumes the captaincy of the ship and orders Clumsy to take Dreamy below deck. When Brainy insists that Clumsy addresses him as “Captain Brainy,” Clumsy fears that Dreamy is dead, but he is relieved when a Smurfling reassures him that Dreamy will recover. Brainy also orders Clumsy to take the Smurflings to the kitchen to peel smurfberries as punishment for stowing away. Clumsy reluctantly does so, saying that they’re just harmless little Smurflings.

The ship soon crashes into a whale. The Smurfs attempt to board an emergency raft, but the whale prematurely cuts the rope connecting the raft to the Smurf II, causing the ship to drift away from the raft. Thus, Clumsy, Brainy, Painter, and Vanity, who are aboard the raft, are separated from Dreamy and the Smurflings, and soon they set ground on the shore of a small desert island. Aboard the Smurf II, the now-recovering Dreamy instructs the Smurflings to keep the ship headed toward Pink Pelican Island.

At Pink Pelican Island, King Symphonium informs the captured Smurfs that his organ is their new home. He locks the Smurfs inside his organ and commands them to play “that lovely Smurf sound.” Delighted to find someone who actually likes the sound of his music, Harmony plays his trumpet (badly as usual). The King angrily accuses the Smurfs of deliberately playing badly so that he will let them go home. Smurfette swears that Harmony was playing his trumpet the way he always does. She guesses that, if their music sounded differently to the King earlier, then perhaps there is something wrong with the King’s ears or with the organ. The King agrees that there might be something wrong with the organ.

Meanwhile, Dreamy and the Smurflings arrive at Pink Pelican Island and sneak inside the organ while the King tries to figure out what’s wrong with it. When the King discovers that a valve was stuck, he commands that the Smurfs play well and threatens to feed them to his pelicans if they play badly. Slouchy plays the trumpet beautifully. Delighted, the King asks Slouchy to play higher and higher notes. Slouchy does so, until his notes are so high that they smash the King’s organ to pieces. The Smurfs and the Smurflings run away to the Smurf II while the King cries in despair.

Meanwhile, the stranded Smurfs lament their fate, with Painter saying that they still don’t know what happened to the Smurflings. Vanity says he is so hungry that his “poor cheeks are caving in.” Brainy replies that his stomach is caving in, and Clumsy adds that his brain is caving in. Aboard the Smurf II, the others eventually manage to spot the stranded Smurfs. Harmony blows his horn to alert the stranded Smurfs that they are saved.

Back on the beach, the Smurfs are happily reunited. Papa Smurf states that if the adult Smurfs would listen to the Smurflings now and then, they would be pleasantly surprised. Slouchy asks Brainy to stop hogging the smurfberry juice, but Brainy keeps on drinking, so Slouchy plays his trumpet until the pitcher is shattered. Everyone laughs, except for Brainy.
