Ivan Ivanovitch is a character that appears in the time-travel episode “Painter's Egg-Cellent Adventure”. He is being identified as a great painter by others as he can make beautiful Easter eggs for the Tsar, however, this is only done by his magic chicken, Kiev, and without any skills of art involved. However, this remains as a secret for a long time. His Easter eggs are not only pretty, but also waterproof.
In the episode, the Tsar visits his home village with Princess Blintzes. The Tsar and princess Blintzes is very surprised by his Easter egg masterpiece and decide to give his village a large reward of food and the villagers cheers at him. His fame even attracts Painter Smurf to have a look. However, a wizard named Gargovich is angry about this. He is dissatisfied as Ivan has taken over his fame by his Easter eggs and wishes to revenge.
Back to the village. Tsar requests him for another Easter egg which must be finished before the next day’s morning. He returns to his house to “paint” another egg immediately. At the same time, Painter follows him to his home to discover how he paints the eggs. However, he does not paint at all, but singing and dancing with Kiev instead. Later, Kiev lays a colored Easter egg. Painter is surprised and decides to report to his fellow Smurfs.
In the next day’s morning, Ivan is ready with his new egg and presents it to Tsar. However, the egg falls onto the ground and breaks into pieces by accident. Both Tsar and princess Blintzes has no choice but request him to make another egg again. During his way back home with Kiev, Gargovich finds out that is Kiev who makes the egg, he he casts a spell on Kiev which makes it cannot lay any Easter eggs anymore. Unluckily, he does not know about it until he finds out that Kiev has just laid a plain white egg instead of a colored one. They feel miserable at the moment. Luckily, with the Smurfs' help, he can still have Easter eggs on time by painting one with the help of Painter Smurf, as some other Smurfs go on finding ingredients to save Kiev.
It is another day’s morning, and Tsar and Princess Blintzes arrives at the village again, waiting for Ivan’s egg. Ivan arrives finally with three painted eggs. Gargovich is shocked that Ivan can make more Easter eggs without Kiev the chicken. He soon casts a raining spell, and the rain washes off the eggs’ color. The Tsar is shocked that the eggs’ colors come off and thinks that Ivan has cheated him. He orders his man to lock Ivan and Kiev up for punishment. Meanwhile, Clumsy reports to the Smurfs that Gargovich casts a spell to turn Papa, Brainy, and Hefty to eggs when they go to collect the ingredients. The remaining Smurfs go and rescue the cursed Smurfs.
After a while, the Smurfs return with success, the Smurfs are saved and ends the curse on Kiev, However, Kiev is going to be boiled for a dish for the Tsar. Luckily, Ivan and Kiev are saved as the Smurfs has convinced the Tsar to free them. They make another Easter egg again with Kiev by sing and dance. Both Blintzes and Tsar are impressed with the egg and thank Ivan once again.
