Mrs. Sourberry is a human character who first appeared in the 1981 Smurfs cartoon show episode "The Clockwork Smurf". She was an elderly maidservant of King Gerard's, mostly seen in charge of cooking. During the time that Imperia had Gerard incarcerated in the dungeon, Mrs. Sourberry along with the rest of the kingdom was led to believe that Gerard was stricken with an illness that had lasted three years. Later, she saw Gerard after he had left the dungeon with Clockwork Smurf, but judging by his clothes, she neither recognized nor believed that he was the prince and taking him for a beggar boy looking for food, shoved him out of the castle before the guards could see him. It was only after he had returned to his kingdom with the Smurfs' help to expose his Aunt Imperia's evil plot that Mrs. Sourberry finally realized who Gerard really was, and since then had remained in his employ.

She also appeared in various other episodes involving King Gerard, mostly as a minor character with few lines; in "The Noble Stag" for example, she was oblivious to the plans of the king's second cousin Malcolm The Mean to take the throne by killing Gerard. She went to search the castle for his amulet at his command and was not seen in the episode again.

The character's name is similar to that of the brutal wife of Mr. Sowerberry in Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist", but as far as personality is concerned, the two couldn't be more different.
