Family Guy is an American animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane. In one episode of season 3, a version of the Smurfs cartoon show is shown on the TV of the episode. The episode name is called "Emission Impossible" in Season 3. Family Guy has certain cutaway gags, meaning a gag which is shown after a conversation related to the it. Some gags in Family Guy are shown on their TV, usually showing a program, movie or television series. It usually starts with "We now return to...".

As with all episodes in the series, "Emission Impossible" uses rather adult humor and is not suitable for general audiences.

In "Halloween on Spooner Street", a teenager is seen dressed up as Smurfette.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, stated that he wanted the Smurfs purple on his show to not get sued.[1] The link links us to Seth MacFarlane's twitter feed, showing one of his fans asking him why SpongeBob SquarePants characters are green whenever they make an appearance on Family Guy, to which he replied by, "to not get sued". We assume this is the same case with The Smurfs appearing on Family Guy.
