Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The Smurflings babysit Bigmouth's nephew.

Plot Summary[]

One morning, Sassette treats her fellow Smurflings to a pancake breakfast that she has cooked up. The boy Smurflings didn't know that Sassette knew how to cook, but Sassette says that cooking isn't so hard... only her pancakes turn out to be hard when the boy Smurflings try to bite into them. Frustrated at Sassette's lack of cooking skills, the Smurflings decide to go over to Greedy's kitchen where he is busy cooking up a breakfast for Baby Smurf, showing up at the table when he least expected them. After they had their fill of pancakes, Greedy tells the Smurflings that he's going to take care of Baby Smurf. The Smurflings offer to help, but Greedy tells them that taking care of Baby is not a job for Smurflings. The four young Smurflings leave the kitchen disappointed, wondering how hard it is to even take care of a baby when they hear the sound of dishes in the kitchen being broken by Baby Smurf.

Sometime later, Baby Smurf is enjoying a bubble bath being given to him by Smurfette, which is something that Sassette says looks like fun as she and her fellow Smurflings watch from a window. They go inside the house and ask Smurfette if they could help give Baby Smurf a bath, but she refuses, saying that giving Baby a bath is no job for Smurflings. Sassette offers to fill the bath with bubbles, but as she grabs the bottle of bubble bath, Snappy grabs it and says that he wants to be the one to do it. The struggle over the job offer causes the bottle of bubble bath to slip out of their hands and go into the bath water. Smurfette shows the little Smurflings the door, telling them that taking care of Baby is a job for grown-up Smurfs, but after they leave, she turns and sees that the bottle of bubble bath in the water has created a gusher of soapy suds for Baby Smurf.

Later, they visit Papa Smurf who is trying to rock Baby Smurf to sleep, and again they offer their help only to be told by the chief Smurf that rocking Baby to sleep is not a job for Smurflings. Baby is accidentally awakened at this point, and the four Smurflings go off into the forest complaining about the grown-up Smurfs and how they act like they know everything there is about taking care of a baby. Then they hear crying from a nearby house, which turns out to be Bigmouth's ogress wife Bignose getting upset because she wants to go to the Ogre Ball this year and the two of them can't get a babysitter for their nephew Bigfeet. The Smurflings show up at the window of the ogre couple's house and say that they'd be willing to babysit Bigfeet while the two attend the Ogre Ball, saying that they're experts in babysitting. Bignose feels so relieved and happy that she'll get to go to the ball. Bigmouth, however, warns the Smurflings that if anything happens to Bigfeet, he will be very angry.

With the two ogres gone, the Smurflings now wonder what they're supposed to do as far as babysitting Bigfeet. They decide that they're going to rock the baby's cradle, and so they jump up and down on the cradle's runners operating it like a seesaw until they decide to go higher, and then they all get flipped off the cradle along with Bigfeet. The ogre baby awakens and sees "dolly", so he grabs Sassette and tries to cuddle her like a doll. Sassette tells the baby that she's a Smurfling and not a doll, which ends up making Bigfeet cry. They now wonder what's wrong with the baby, and Snappy thinks it's because Bigfeet doesn't have any toys to play with. Sassette suggests bringing Bigfeet into the village so he can play with their toys, and so the Smurflings have the ogre baby give them a ride back as he crawls his way to the Smurf Village.

Bringing Up Bigfeet

He sure is a big baby!

Back in the village, Papa Smurf is reading Baby Smurf a story when he notices a shadow cast over the book he is reading from. He turns and sees that there's a baby ogre in the village, which the Smurflings have brought because they're doing a babysitting job for Bigmouth. Papa Smurf says that this may be a job that's too big for Smurflings, but Snappy assures Papa Smurf that they're doing just fine right now... although neither he nor his fellow Smurflings notice that Bigfeet had just sat on top of Tailor's house. Then Bigfeet starts crying and stamping his feet, and Tailor is eager to give the Smurflings a hand, but Papa Smurf tells Tailor to just let the Smurflings take care of it, because he has a feeling that the Smurflings will learn better from experience.

After a while of trying to entertain Bigfeet with toys and costumes even from Jokey's collection of gags, the Smurflings see that the ogre baby is still upset. Sassette thinks that Bigfeet must be hungry, and so the Smurflings run a hose from the village reservoir of smurfberry juice to Bigfeet's mouth, hoping that it will satisfy the child and calm him down. Unfortunately, that did nothing except waste an entire month's supply of smurfberry juice. Sassette tells Greedy that they're tried everything, but Greedy says that they haven't, and he whispers into Sassette's ear a clue as to what they haven't tried. Soon with the help of Handy operating a crane and Tailor directing the Smurflings to bring in the cloth, they successfully make a diaper change, which they see has made Bigfeet happy.

Unfortunately, as the Smurflings now see Bigfeet getting curious enough to pull the roofs off Smurf houses, Papa Smurf tells them that the baby is much too big for them to take care of in the village. The Smurflings decide to take Bigfeet out into the forest by the Great Oak Tree, and as they have a picnic together in that spot, they see that Bigfeet is entertained by riding in a bouncing swing that Handy has created. Soon, though, their fun is interrupted by Gargamel using a Smurfoscope to track down Smurfs just by the sound they make, and as the Smurflings make a run for it, Bigfeet lands right on top of the evil wizard and decides to play with him, causing Gargamel great pain as he can't get the ogre baby off him.

The Smurflings stop in their tracks as Sassette realizes that they need to go back and rescue Bigfeet from Gargamel. The boy Smurflings think that Bigfeet is just too big a trouble for them, but Sassette tells them that Bigfeet is their responsibility, and so they return only to see that the child is safe without Gargamel around. They tell the baby that it's time to play piggyback, and so Bigfeet crawls away with the Smurflings on their back and Gargamel chasing after the runaway baby until both the baby and the Smurflings escape under the legs of Bigmouth. Gargamel, however, gets trapped in the ogre's legs, and then finds to his terror that Bigmouth is very angry at him for chasing after his nephew. Gargamel's attempt to reason with Bigmouth just earns him a flight back to his house, where he lands in a cauldron sucking his thumb and babbling like a baby.

Bigmouth and Bignose show up at the Smurf Village to thank the Smurflings to watching after Bigfeet, to which Sassette says it was nothing. Bignose is so pleased that she says that the Smurflings can become Bigfeet's regular babysitters, which only makes the Smurflings groan. Papa Smurf, however, sees that it now proves to him that the Smurflings are capable of being responsible for a baby as he hands Baby Smurf over to Sassette to hold. Sassette says she's learned her lesson that babysitting isn't as easy as it looks, but at least some babies are easier to take care of than others.
